What week of pregnancy am I in?

This question often arises at the beginning – and it is important, as it determines which options are available to you. Here, you will find some initial guidance.

How the week of pregnancy is calculated

In medicine, pregnancy is not calculated from the estimated time of conception, but from the first day of your last menstrual period. This may seem unusual at first, but it is the internationally accepted standard because the exact date of ovulation is rarely known. A simple example: If the first day of your last period was 6 weeks ago, you are mathematically in the 6th week of pregnancy – even if the actual conception only occurred about two weeks later.

Why this is relevant for you

In Austria, a medical abortion is available up to 63 days after the first day of your last menstrual period – this corresponds to approximately the end of the 9th week of pregnancy. If your pregnancy is further advanced, we will discuss other available options with you personally.

Are you unsure when your last period was?

This happens frequently, especially if you have an irregular cycle. There is no reason to worry: in this case, we will determine the exact gestational age on-site using an ultrasound. This is a standard part of our consultation, allowing us to accurately assess which options are suitable for you. Our advice: Do not delay contacting us just because you are uncertain about the date. Simply book an appointment – we will handle the precise determination.
