How the Process Works with Us
We know that uncertainty about the process often causes additional tension. Therefore, we want to describe as concretely as possible what you can expect when you come to us.
An appointment at our practice
A medical abortion requires a personal consultation at our practice. During this visit, we will discuss your situation with you in a calm environment, address any questions you may have, and perform the necessary medical examinations – including an ultrasound to determine the gestational age.
Once everything is medically clarified and you decide to proceed with a medical abortion, you will take the first medication, mifepristone, directly at our practice.
Two days later: at home
Approximately 48 hours after taking mifepristone, you will take the second medication, a prostaglandin (misoprostol), independently at home.
We will explain precisely how and when to use it and provide you with all the essential information for this phase: such as what a normal course looks like, when you should contact us, and how you can manage pain and bleeding effectively.
Many women find it a relief to experience this part of the process in the familiar environment of their own home, with time and privacy.
What you should bring and keep in mind
- Please bring a photo ID and any relevant medical records (such as your maternity passport/medical booklet) if you have them.
- Plan sufficient time for your appointment at the practice so that all your questions can be discussed thoroughly.
- Try to arrange for some rest for the days at home – having a support person with you can be helpful, though it is not a requirement.
- We ensure that we can be reached by phone even after your appointment, should any questions or symptoms arise.
